Held just a few days after Michael Jackson's death, it wasn't surprising to see the BET Awards converted into a tribute for the King of Pop and his music. BET Awards jewelry was dramatic, and circular motifs were among the most popular trends. Amerie's big-link necklace is one of my personal favorites, and I like the goth-and-heart piece that Elise Neal wore.

The Mohs Scale was developed in the early 1800s and is still used today. It's not a scale that weighs something -- it's a comparison chart that tells us which minerals are harder than others, something that's important to know before buying and storing a gemstone.

As announced in early June, today Sony's vast catalog of music has become available to eMusic subscribers.
The site's messageboards have been thick with complaints from customers upset at the changes in their subscription plans (eMusic offers a fixed number of downloads each month for a flat fee; those plans changed with Sony's entrance). Still, lots of important new artists have hit the site today - from Bob Dylan to The Clash, Bruce Springsteen to Run DMC - and I'm enjoying browsing all the new content.
With this expansion, eMusic is becoming a more serious competitor to iTunes and Amazon MP3. If the site can add other labels, it may become an even bigger player.

If you are intimidated by the traditional home theater receiver with its inputs, outputs, and extensive setup and operating options, Yamaha may have an answer for you. Its new line of neoHD Media Controllers is designed to be as simple to use as possible, while still providing the necessary audio/video flexibility for today's user. There are two models: the MC500 ($599) and the MC700 ($799). Both units offer 5.1 channel audio processing (including Dolby TrueHD decoding), Three HDMI inputs, analog to HDMI video conversion, and USB, iPod docking station, and bluetooth docking station ports. In addition, the MC700 is also WiFi enabled, allowing the user to connect to a home network for accessing media content stored on a PC or Rhapsody content directly streamed from the internet.
However, the key to Yamaha's new media controllers isn't so much the inputs, outputs, and audio/video features, but its unique onscreen menu-driven navigation system. The only control on the front panel are the on/off and master volume control. Instead of a remote control filled with buttons, the only direct access buttons on the remote are for power, volume, channel (when using with a TV), and Mute. The menu navigation buttons provide access to all of the rest of Media Controllers functions. In addition, using IR extenders, the user can control up to six additional components usiung the neoHD's menu system (four IR extenders are provided).
I must say, looking at the photos and feature information provided by Yamaha, their media controller concept is certainly interesting. However, the proof is in real world performance, stay tuned for more on whether this new concept is on the right track... For now, check out Yamaha's Official neoHD Product Page as well as the user manual provided with both the MC500 and MC700 Media Controllers. Stay tuned for more indepth details on performance as they become available. Blog Photos (c) Yamaha Electronics Corporation. Click on photos for larger view.

The Home Theater receiver is the heart of a home theater system and provides most, if not all, the inputs and outputs that you connect everything, including your television, into. An AV Receiver provides a way of centralizing your your home theater system.
A Home Theater Receiver usually combines the functions of three components:
1. A radio tuner for AM/FM and, in some cases, HD (High Definition Radio) or XM-Satellite Radio.
2. A Preamplifier that switches and controls which audio and video source is selected (such as a DVD player, VCR, CD player, etc...) and processes the incoming stereo or surround sound signals and distributes them to the correct amplifier channels and the subwoofer output. The preamp in an AV receiver can also route video signals coming from source components (such as a DVD player) and direct the video signal to the television.
3. A built-in Multi-channel amplifier (5.1, 6.1, or 7.1 channels) that sends the surround sound signals and power to the speaker system.

Fujifilm hopes to increase its digital camera market share in India, reaching 15% market share by mid-2012. Such an increase in market share would make Fujifilm one of the top three camera manufacturers in India.
To achieve its desired market growth, Fujifilm plans to introduce at least 10 new models in India every year and work to increase its DSLR line in the country.
Current estimations place Fujifilm's market share in India at about 3%, trailing several camera makers, including Canon, Kodak, Nikon, and Sony.

If you're looking to make a transition from a point and shoot digital camera to a beginner-level DSLR, my list of the top five cameras for under $750 should give you a good starting point in your research.
The recently released Nikon D5000, pictured here, heads the list, along with models from Canon, Olympus, Pentax, and Sony.
We discussed the release of the D5000 in May, and it has proven to be a popular digital camera for those looking for an introductory DSLR camera. The other models on the list of best sub-$750 digital cameras will work well, too, offering plenty of resolution, high-end LCD screens, and very strong continuous shot and burst modes.
Keep in mind that many DSLR cameras are sold as camera bodies only without lenses. Other DSLR cameras are sold as a kit, containing a basic lens with the camera body. For those more familiar with today's ultra-compact, point and shoot models, a DSLR model represents a big transition. But it will provide very good image quality and, thanks to its manual-control features, it will help you learn more about photography than a fully automatic point and shoot model.

Filming fireworks with a camcorder is not easy – to put it mildly. But just as fireworks typically celebrate acts of bravery and heroism against seemingly insurmountable odds, you too can overcome the odds to produce some spectacular fireworks video.
Just in time for the Fourth of July, here’s a Guide to Filming Fireworks Displays.

Watching giant robots pound on each other got me in the mind of another great match-up: Camcorders vs. Digital Cameras.
The video modes on digital cameras have gone from novelty to serious movie taker in a fairly short amount of time. There's even a growing number of still cameras sporting HD resolution video recording. All of this has no doubt made people wonder whether they should even bother with a camcorder at all. Why not just use your still camera instead?
Well, lots of reasons actually. To find out why a camcorder remains the superior device for recording life's movable memories, see Camcorders vs. Cameras: Both Take Video, Which Do You Need?
