Good for watching movies January 5, 2009 Wow there is a lot of negative reviews on here. I had to write in. I bought my PS3 when they first came out about 2 years ago, and I have loved it ever since. I never had this remote as I thought it was just a waste of money. But this past Christmas my parents wanted to get a Blu-ray player and finally decided on the PS3, and they bought this remote. I was home for a few weeks and watching movies was great with this remote. The problems people say of turning the system on and off are not true. It is exactly the same as the normal PS3 controller, hold the PS button and select shutdown, that is it to turn it off.
This remote is also very nice for those who are not used to using a game controller to FF or RW a movie, this has all the buttons clearly marked. If you cannot ready it GET SOME GLASSES!
After two years without it I am going to purchase this as a nice add on to the best entertainment system on the market.
For those that complain about no On/Off button... January 4, 2009 This is a great remote. Feels great in your hand, the most used buttons are big and easy to access. I saw alot of reviews with people complaining about no power button. I'm not sure what the big deal is. This is more of a glorified/reshaped PS3 controller. To power on the PS3, just press the Playstation button on the remote. To turn off the PS3, hold the button again, and you'll be prompted to turn off the system. Simple. Just like when using a PS3 controller while playing a game. Sure it takes a total of 3 button presses to turn off the PS3 (1 to bring up power off option, 1 to select power off, and 1 to confirm), but that's hardly an inconvenience. In less than 2 seconds you can turn off the PS3. If you think of the PS3 as more of a PC/Media Center device rather than straight up blu-ray/dvd player, it makes sense not to have a one-button-press option to turn the thing off.
Way better to use with movies than the regular PS3 controller December 31, 2008 Without getting into many details, think of this as a regular remote you use to watch movies, all the basic functionalities are there (play, stop, pause, fwd, eject, etc) and plus, you get the colored buttons that so far a few movies have used for extra content or bookmarking.
The remote powers on as the PS3 controller, by clicking on the PS button, you want to turn it off without navigating through the PS3 menus, simply push it for like 3 seconds and you will be asked if you want to turn off the system, click enter and you're done.
I had been using the PS3 control to watch movies and while not a painful process it was sometimes annoying to press triangle to pull the menu and select the option you wanted. This control solves that problem like a charm; also consider it is a Bluetooth remote so it can be used without even pointing to your PS3 or with thing on the way.
Great value for the money, Amazon will sometimes drop the price to $19.99 which makes it a better deal.
great remote December 29, 2008 this is a great accessories for those PS3 owners who enjoy watching blu ray dvds in addition to the games that they play. the remote has a great layout, with one deception: no power button that said the remote CAN turn on the console by pushing the PS button like you would on regular controller. my only beef is that it connects via bluetooth which means that those people (me included) who use logitech harmony style and other hi-end remote will not be able to program there remote to control the console and will have to use this remote
just a remote December 22, 2008 does what it's supposed to do. Keeps your lazy butt on the couch while your dvd or blu ray discs rip it up on your ps3
