Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
The MaxiScan code reader supports all OBD2 protocols, including the newly released Controller Area Network (CAN) protocol. Though it is small, it is able to retrieve same information as large expensive scanners. This code reader reviews the emission readiness status of OBD monitors and determines the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) status as well as turns off check engine light. It comes with free CD software with over 7000 DTC definitions and is powered via detachable OBD2 cable.

4 out of 5 stars maxi scan   March 11, 2010

Dollar for dollar this little jewel is pretty darn good. The only shortcoming I have noticed so far is that when I try to open the supplied CD with my computer I only get a partial product screen. Other than that it has been worth every penny and quickly paid for itself just by being able to erase codes. My Cadillac and Pickup both have flashed a service engine light. With the OBD-II I was able to get the code, research TSB's and correct the problem with little effort. Dealers with commissioned mechanics rarely have your best interests at heart so you can gaurantee yourself some savings with this product even if you only use it to clear the code. A dealer will charge you around $80.00 for about two minutes work reading a scanner.

Great item for the money. You do not have to spend upwards of two hundred dollars to determine what is malfunctioning with your car. This item can do it for less than 30 dollars. It sure helps to know what you need exactly when I enter a repair shop. Thanks for an inexpensive and valuable tool.

5 out of 5 stars Saved me an expensive service appointment   March 10, 2010

I had a check engine light on my Cobra and knew it wouldn't pass emissions. Tried a competitive device that came from a big box store. It wouldn't even read anything on either car I own.
Read the reviews and decided to take a chance.

Got the device today, glanced at the manual and hooked it up. No fault showed and it allowed me to reset the fault and pass inspection!

Well worth the small cost and now I have the ability to check any faults on my cars.

5 out of 5 stars Ths tools works for me   March 9, 2010

Being nothing special - the basic cheapest one - this tool works great for my 1999 Mercedes. I could read the error codes and plan my repairs.
Yes, you could do that for free in many auto parts stores, but this tool will save you time. You could also erase the codes and observe when if they come back and how soon, without making 10 trips to the store.
I would recommend anyone having older vehicle to have such a tool. If check engine light is off it doesn't mean you don't have any hidden error codes which could need repair.

5 out of 5 stars Great little scanner   March 9, 2010

OK..so it won't work on 1% of the cars ever made. But it worked great for me on my American made cars. Straight forward no bells or whistles, but how often are you really going to use this? And what the heck do you expect for this price!? ( I paid $22 on a gold box deal) The computer dvd software included is great. Just punch in your code and it tells you what's up so you can either fix it yourself or keep you from going to the repair shop stupid.
