takes a beating September 5, 2010 A. Adams (Kansas) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am an inventor and sometimes things do not go according to plan. I have this unit mounted on a mobile wheelchair that tows a mobile craft center (see the epiphany3 website). There have been occasions in development when the charge controller took some hard hits (including a traffic collision where it smacked pavement) and a few occasions when heavy wires were violently yanked from the connecter terminals (me being forgetful and not unplugging the trailer). Powering the craft center, a laptop, and lighting, it does the job in spite of the abuse. Miraculously, in spite of all it has been through it appears and works as it did the day I received it, juicing up a 17 amph battery when not towing the craft bench and the huge 90 amph solid core batteries on that mobile work center.
You get more than you pay for with this one! August 25, 2010 mcdori02 I have no complaints about it's job performance. Charges my UPG UB1280 Sealed Lead Acid Batteries easily from my two HQRP 12W (Size of 10 Watt / 10W) Mono-crystalline Solar Panel 12 Watt 12 Volt in Anodized Aluminum Frame plus HQRP Coaster. When charging, it holds the voltage at a max of 14.4 volts. My only concern is that when it registers the battery as being fully charged, sometimes, but not others, it holds the voltage at 14.2 volts for an additional 10-15 minutes, before dropping down to 13.2-13.5V. I'm sure it knows better than me how to charge a battery though, so 5 stars. I don't think you could get a better controller at this price from anyone else.
Nice for the price June 30, 2010 Michael Pfaeffle (New York, NY) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Great little controller - like one of the other reviewers, I'm using it for a "larger-than-normal" solar fountain. I used a deep cycle marine battery, 60 watt panel, and a bilge pump that draws about 3 amps as well as a small inverter to drive a UV lamp inside my canister filter (adds about 1/2 amp). Doesn't let the battery run down too deep and comes back on when the battery is charged back up. I was going to fabricate something myself using a comparator and a relay, but for the price of this I figured why bother building it!
Wires not included! May 26, 2010 J. Horton 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
A warning to the novices out there that might purchase this unit - there is no wiring/connections included.
Once I got some wiring to hook the panel-charger-battery, the green light went on and all seems to be going well.
I'll update this review once I see what a full day of sunlight does to the system.
Works great April 15, 2010 Ronnie Snipes 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
The regulator performs as advertised. I use the system on a camper in the woods and leave it along for long periods of time without worring about it. It keeps my batteries charged.
